Spanish Spell Check Update

Recently we’ve had a few queries about using a spellchecker in Spanish. It’s possible in MS Word, and here’s what to do:

  1. Go to the Review tab
  2. Click the right-hand button above Language (it has a globe, the letter A and a Chinese character)
  3. Select Set Proofing Language…  from the small pop-up window (the other option is Language Preferences…)

Check or un-check languages as desired. The list is quite long and there are many options for some items, e.g., there are 21 options for Spanish! Finally, hit OK. You may have to re-boot MS Word depending on your version.

After you have finished using a spellchecker in a language other than English as a courtesy to your fellow students please reset the defaults back to English. If you are unsure about how to do this, ask the Reference Librarian for assistance.
